Good afternoon! I hope everyone is enjoying this absolutely beautiful Saturday. Wow! It is just lovely after such a chilly start to the day. It has been a few days since my last update, so I thought I would send you all a few Eagle updates. Please feel free to forward this update to other parents. If they want to be included they can e-mail me at rdoerksen@buhlerschools.org.
This is a bit long - there are just lots of great things happening in our school community. . . .
Eagle Communication - Our Parent Communication Group continues to grow. Thanks so much for your support and dedication to your children and to the Eagle Learning Community. Working together we can most certainly take our young Eagles to incredible heights.
PREVIOUS UPDATE UPDATES:
Fall Decorations - Thank you so much to a member of our Eagle Parent Communication Group who single-handedly took on the challenge of decorating the front of our building. IT LOOKS AWESOME! Thank you so much! If you would be interested in helping with this in the future, please let me know. I think this might just become a seasonal thing . . . it has been received well by all the kids at school and I have had people driving by who have called just to comment on the festive fall look. . .
Raising the Roof - The rooftop was absolutely a blast. There could not have been a better day to celebrate the success of the children. You know, it took an incredible team effort to pull off over $14,000 for the lap-a-thon. Thank you to everyone for your support and dedication. Thank you to those of you who brought by hot chocolate, lunch, drinks, honks, etc. What a blast! Our raising the roof goal will most certainly need to be higher next year. :)
School Bus Safety Week - Did you know this is School Bus Safety Week. I had the honor of meeting with the USD 313 School Bus Drivers on Friday. They are most certainly a wonderful group of people who have a common mission of SAFELY TRANSPORTING YOUR CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL! Wouldn't it be a great time to give your bus driver a note of thanks. We are having students do that at Prosperity and from the response of the bus drivers on Friday, they loved this simple act of kindness. Pass it on!
TODAY:
SCKMEA Honor Choir - Our school was represented by 7 - 6th graders at the South Central Kansas Music Educators Association Honor Choir in Burrton on Saturday (today). Lexie Bass, Jordan White, Sarah Hatcher, Danielle Steele, Kyle Doerksen, Jason Klamm, and Cory Walker represented our school in a fabulous way. Evangelina Wiens was also selected, but was not able to attend. The choir met this morning from 8:30 - 11:30 and then performed at 12:00 for family, friends, and their teachers. It was fantastic! Thank you Mrs. Law for preparing our Eagles so well!
LOOKING AHEAD:
"ROCK THE PILLARS" - We had a great time this past week celebrating CHARACTER COUNTS! Week. Did you know that over 5,000,000 children world-wide celebrated this great week together. As a culminating activity, we announced to the students Friday afternoon that we would "ROCK THE PILLARS" Monday by wearing all the pillar colors. We also asked for NO painted hair, but we are going to allow hats for this special "ROCK THE PILLARS" day.
STUDENT-INVOLVED CONFERENCES - As you know, conferences are this week. We are most certainly looking forward to seeing everyone and looking forward to establishing those student goals for the year. Be sure to stop by the book fair during this next week. You can not only purchase books for your family, for Christmas presents, but also for your classroom teacher. Look for the Teacher Wish Lists posted at the book fair.
DID YOU KNOW?
GOVERNOR SEBELIUS:
DID YOU KNOW . . . 10 people from Buhler met with Governor Kathleen Sebelius Monday afternoon for a proclamation for CHARACTER COUNTS! Week in Kansas? Yes, that's right, the Governor proclaimed CHARACTER COUNTS! Week for the entire state and Buhler was right at the heart of this. Isn't that awesome!
Those attending included: Trenton Stringer (BHS Student Council President); Kaitlynn Goscha (PHMS 8th Grader); Gaylen Banz (Buhler School Board Member); David Brax (Superintendent of Schools); Dayna Richardson (Assistant Superintendent of Schools); Joyce Raya (Counselor - U.V. & Prosperity); Lynette McLean (U.V. 1st Grade Teacher); Chris Wolf (USD 313 Bus Driver); Nancy Bether (BGS Principal); Randy Doerksen (Prosperity Principal).
DID YOU KNOW . . . . President Bush also proclaimed CHARACTER COUNTS! Week for the entire country.

Governor Sibelius is going to be nominated today for a national office by President Obama. She also has a date with Kansas Children to read to all on Dr. Seuss's birthday!
